Weekly Update:

We have had a great week back at school after the half term holidays. We started our cooking club on Tuesday for parents and they made red pepper and tomato soup which was delicious.

We had our Together Trust Sleep coffee morning on Wednesday and all our parents/carers found the talk extremely helpful and learnt some great tips regarding children sleeping.

We had our first Parent show around school on Thursday and it was lovely to see so many parents in school. There are still a few spaces left on the show arounds for next week if you would like to book a place.

Keep up to date on Twitter

Year 5/6: children are going to be visiting the Imperial War Museum as part of this term’s topic: Is it right to fight?

  • Both Mr Martin’s and Miss Collins’ classes will be visiting the museum on Friday 24th March.

On the 27th March Y4 and 29th March Y3 will go for half a day for their 'Fantastic Finish' to their topic. As part of the visit each class will meet with the farmer and have a tour of the farm. We will be seeing the plants grown and animals reared at the farm and develop our understanding of how our food is grown and produced and where it comes from.

Please pay for the trip on parent pay. Any issues with parent pay/payment please contact the school office.

World Book Day - Thursday 2nd March

The children are invited to come dressed as their favourite book character. It does not matter if it is a shop bought or a homemade outfit, the important thing is that it is a character the children love and one they know something about. There will also be a class prize for the best costume - we love when the children get creative and make their own costumes.

Strike Day

You may be aware from media coverage that the NEU (National Education Union) had set a number of

strike days for teachers linked to this union. The next date of strike action is Tuesday 28th February and the following information is only applicable to this date. For further strike days, separate correspondence will be sent out.

The strike is happening because of a national dispute between the unions and the government over pay, and not because of any issues at our school. A number of teachers have expressed their democratic right and have elected to strike. As a community, I request that all individual decisions that have been made are respected.

When making key decisions about the implications for Broomwood Primary, I have followed the national

guidance and the remit for head teachers is ‘to take all reasonable steps to keep the school open for as

many pupils as possible’. There are some classes however that will be closed on this date so please do

not send your child into school. Following the guidance, we will be inviting pupils who are eligible for pupil premium or who have an EHCP into school if their class is closed. You will receive a text message today if this applies to your child.

I am writing to inform you, with as much notice as possible, that the following will happen on the 28th

Show around school

Have you ever wondered what your child gets up to at School?

When you ask them what they have done, do they say “nothing”?

At Broomwood Primary School we are super proud of your children and of our school as a whole; the work they produce, the behaviour they display and the opportunities that they make the most of each day.

In order to give you a little bit more of an insight into school life at Broomwood, we have decided to open our doors and give you the opportunity to see the school in action.

We have set aside three dates where you can book in to have a show round while the children are working. This will involve a short tour of the school with a member of the Senior Leadership Team; you will be able to pop into classrooms, look at some work and ask any questions you may have.

In order to book your place on a tour, please call the school office as soon as possible. Places are limited but if it is successful we will hold further tours in the Summer term.

Monday 27th February 1:30pm – 2:00pm

Thursday 2nd March 9:45 am– 10:15am

We look forward to showing you what Broomwood life is really like.
